La Brasserie des Monts d'Or
3 Place de la République
69450 Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or

The House
On the square of a village perched above Lyon, La Brasserie des Monts d'Or cultivates the art of welcome: a beautiful building, a terrace facing the panorama, and seasonal cuisine that celebrates the Lyon terroir.

Our story
In the autumn of 2022, La Brasserie des Monts d'Or opened a new chapter in its story: Thibaut Gaudin took over this institution on the village square. Trained in the demanding world of Lyon's great tables, he came from the Brasserie de l'Ouest — one of the brasseries of the Bocuse house — where he honed his sense of service and his taste for work well done. He brings that heritage here: the generosity of true brasserie cooking and an unwavering care for the guest, in the lineage of the Bocuse school.
With his partner Sandrine alongside him in the dining room, he gives the house fresh energy without losing any of its soul. The bourgeois building, its two rooms and its terrace — around a hundred covers in all — once again hum with the life of a great village brasserie: seasonal cooking, charcuterie and cheese boards at any hour, well-chosen wines, and a genuine desire to please. A place of tradition, driven by a simple ambition: to welcome every table as it deserves.

The setting
La Brasserie des Monts d'Or occupies an elegant bourgeois townhouse at 3 Place de la République, in the very heart of Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or. The golden stone that gave these hills their name dresses the façades and warms the light as soon as the fine days arrive. Inside, the cosy, warm décor blends natural materials, welcoming banquettes and generously laid tables: you settle in as if at home, for a quick lunch between meetings as easily as for a long, lingering dinner.
Everything here is designed for conviviality. The dining rooms flow into one another, letting conversations and laughter circulate without ever breaking the intimacy of each table. This grand brasserie in Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or embraces its spirit of a popular table in the finest sense: a lively, open place where you come with family, colleagues or friends alike, sure to find a frank welcome and a carefully prepared plate.

Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or
Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or is one of those Monts d'Or villages that seem to keep a step ahead of the city's bustle. Just five minutes from Lyon, you breathe a different rhythm here: food shops, a market, stone lanes and walking trails frame a place made for strolling before or after a meal. The brasserie sits naturally within this village life, on Place de la République where the heart of the town beats.
This closeness is what makes the house so distinctive: you enjoy a country escape, the calm of the hillsides and the view over the city, without ever straying far from Lyon. For Lyon locals seeking a restaurant near Lyon with a change of scene, as for visitors passing through the region, it is an ideal destination: you come for the table, you stay for the atmosphere.

Open air
As soon as the warm days arrive, the panoramic terrace becomes the house's greatest asset. Settled in the shade of the trees, you take in the rooftops of Lyon and the slopes of the Monts d'Or descending toward the valley. It is a balcony open onto the city, perfect for a sunny lunch, an aperitif that runs late or a cool-evening dinner, glass in hand and conversation flowing freely.
The spirit here belongs to the market square: you share, you raise a glass, you put the world to rights. A game of pétanque takes shape, the boules rolling over the gravel while sharing boards make the rounds and glasses are refilled. This panoramic terrace above Lyon sums up the soul of the brasserie: generous, lively and resolutely turned toward the pleasure of being together.

The kitchen
In the kitchen, the house champions a sincere bistronomy: traditional brasserie cooking, rooted in the season, that delicately reinterprets the great French classics. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, from neighbouring producers, so that every plate tells the story of the Monts d'Or terroir and the Lyon region. The market dictates the menu, which evolves with the deliveries and the inspiration of the moment.
There is nothing intimidating about this standard. Bistronomy as it is practised here means, above all, getting the flavour right: mastered cooking, ingredients respected, frank tastes served without showiness. At weekday lunch, the daily set menu at €30 — starter, main and dessert — embodies this philosophy of fair value and pleasure, making the brasserie an address as reasonable as it is generous, from Tuesday to Friday lunchtime.

What unites the building, the village, the terrace and the kitchen is one and the same art of welcome: warm, attentive and unfussy. Time is taken to recommend a wine, to explain a dish, to find the right table for a large gathering of friends as much as for a business lunch. The house knows how to be discreet when needed and generous when the occasion calls for it.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, lunch and dinner, La Brasserie des Monts d'Or welcomes all who love good food and fine tables. To book your table, one gesture is enough: a phone call. It is also, in the old-fashioned way, a chance to start the conversation before you even sit down.
